More than one Google+ profile required?

I am currently confused by the joining together of blogspot and google, wherein I was obligated to make a whole new Google+ profile using the email I previously associated with the blog - although I already have another Google+ profile associated with my google email. Go figure. At least I will be able to post here. And so the Great Centralization of All the Internet continues.
